Why is Android killing running apps instead of old apps when low memory?

Using Lollipop on my device with 1 GB of RAM, I've found that I have trouble using Maps Navigation and Play Music together. Frequently, if I start Nav and then Music, Nav will be closed. Conversely, if I start Music and then Nav, Music will be closed.

Further, I've discovered that if I open the app switcher and clear all old applications, that Nav and Music will work together without problem.

It appears that Android is trying to reclaim memory while under pressure from Nav & Music, but it's starting with other fresh, currently-running applications instead of clearing out old apps from memory first. I would expect stale applications, like Chrome, Mint, or whatever that hasn't been touched in hours to be killed first over a new app--especially ones that are running in the background actively (Music, Nav).

Why is Android killing processes like that? Shouldn't it kill old apps first over newer, active ones?

Xperia Z3 won't boot to recovery; boots normally instead

So I recently rooted my device using this guide and updated to lollipop using the links inside. However, I realized I didn't update to the latest version (5.0.2 instead of 5.1.1). So I decided to do that, when I realized I couldn't boot into recovery. Whenever I tried, the device would turn off instead. I downloaded Quick Boot, and when I hit to recovery, it instead just boots up as if it was just a normal restart.

Help would be appreciated.

touchscreen gone, ne way to make USB storage instead of charge?

I really need a guru here with this one! Dropped the phone last tuesday, screen cracked, and is no longer operable. Since the Nexus 4 has no SD card, I have no way of retrieving the data on it. When I plug the usb cable into the computer, it defaults to charging mode instead of mass storage mode to mount a drive on the computer. Screen is locked with my chosen pattern. Is there any way at all to make the the phone automatically mount the drive instead of going to charging mode?

People Edge Sending MMS instead of SMS

Hi all

I've got my 5 people set up and 4 of them work just fine, however when I go to send 1 particular contact a text, it always sets it up as a MMS. I've looked through the settings and I can't see a way to stop this.

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts before I go resetting the phone?

Hello, i'm new in this forum and i haven't flashed so many roms before.

they use flashfire to install lollipop rooted rom into G870A devices.

but i have a problem, i followed the steps to receive flashfire beta on my device but i never got it, i asked in g+ page to someone to share me the apk containing flashfire beta (the version that is required to do this), but he said me i have to change the date of my phone to july 1st because the app does not open at all, and it is true, by changing the date i was able to open the app, but i;m not sure about using it because i thing it is not the right version and i thing i can damage my device.

Can i use twrp instead? or is it safe to use the apk he shared to me?

Can't write anywhere instead of using keyboard ?

Wish I could write anywhere with the S-Pen and have it transcribed to text.

I tried it here on Chrome on my Note 5 right now. Pulled the S-Pen out, went to handwrite in this reply box, but nothing happens.

I then opened Google Messenger, tried writing and a little Blue circle with a T popped up, and yes, I could handwrite a message, and then it transcribed it, and I sent it. Sweet that's exactly what I wanted, and thought I could do that in web browsers too ? Or e-mails ?

So can only certain apps allow you to handwrite instead of typing ? I thought with a Note phone, anywhere that could use the keyboard, that you'd also have the option to use the S-Pen and could handwrite if wanted ?

I do have Direct pen input on in the S Pen settings.

launch app instead of firetv screensaver

I was wondering if its someone is willing to write an xposed module that replaces android screensaver with
a lunch action on an app. That way e.g. kodi could be launched which handles in my setup the sleeping of the
firetv. It would also be use full to run e.g. the flickr app or any other non amazon picture source.

As i'm not realy into the xposed development i have no real clue where to look for the right hocking method.

Since WhatsUp calls were introduced, many places I click on to call a contact, default to WhatsApp calls....I have to manually go in my address book and call from there.

How can I get my Moto E working on ALL Public Wifi instead of only some?

OK, Got the Verizon LTE Moto E and everything works fine. I can connect to my home and work (with authentication) wifi perfectly with no problem. I can even connect to most public open wifi with authentication page fine as well, e.g., Target, Kohls, etc. However, there are certain public wifi that for some reason the phone cannot log onto. Basically, the phone picks up the wifi signal with no problem. It can even connect fine, however, when I get to the authentication page, it either shows up for a mini-second and then a red screen with a stop symbol (circle with a slash through it) immediately shows up or I can click the "I Agree" button on the authentication page, but then the red no-go screen shows up anyway. The latter just happened at my local Chik-Fil-A and at a county community rec center, while the former happened at my local grocery store. This can't be normal that the phone "likes" some public wifi but not others, is there a way to fix this problem?

This is a 2nd gen Moto E (2015).

Samsung S3: Notification panel opens on quick setting instead of notifcation

Hi!

Until I installed StickMount. when I opened the Samsung notification panel, it opened on the notification panel (not the quick setting one). So I had this panel (sorry can't have link yet)

After installing StickMount, when I open the notification panel, it opens on the quick setting panel so I have to click on the dots-lines icon (top right) to get back to the notification panel.


This is really annoying. I did restart the phone, pull the battery, uninstall StickMount, restart, pull the battery, set the launcher back to Touchwiz and back to Nova but still, my notification panel open on the quick setting panel. When I am on a lock screen, the pable also opens on the quick settings one, not on the notifications one.

So i come to you: DO you have any idea how I can get the notification panel to open on the notification panel, not on the quick settings one?

My phone: Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G GT-i9305, Android 4.4.4, rooted Nova launcher (StickMount is uninstalled)

When phone is off plugging in charger boots phone instead of charge mode

Phone is running stock kitkat. In the past when I turned off the phone and plugged in the charger a charging icon would appear with the percentage of charge. Now when I plug in the phone it boots to the UI. I preferred the previous behavior. I have not installed any new apps or modified the ROM.

I am thinking this could be solved with a factory reset but I'd like to avoid restoring all my apps and system settings from a Titanium backup.

Pirate logo instead of the smiley in the xda editor?

So, I couldn't find anything on the forums but since yday I noticed that when editing a post instead of the usual friendly smiley there is a pirate box? If I click it I do get the usual smiley, but it just looks different..
