I've never owned an electronic device of any medium that makes me so bipolar. My previous phone which I still have is a cracked Nexus 5 which compelled me to go and get the AT&T Note 5.
On one hand I absolutely LOVE the hardware. It is the most premium feeling handset I've owned by a large margin. The display is by far the most beautiful of any medium. The audio quality from the aux is leagues better than the Nexus 5. The camera crushes the Nexus 5. No more do I have to make sure the camera is focused. It's an amazing point and shoot camera. It's sleek, beautiful and stunning.
And then we are left with the software... WTF Samsung. Apparently this beast is running the fastest mobile SOC currently on the planet along with 4 gigs of RAM, yet for some reason my Nexus 5 hardly ever dips below 60 fps with animations and scrolling while the Note 5 lags like hell. I don't know how much I can attribute this to a higher resolution display, but it's pretty pathetic how a two year old device is smoother than the alleged current king of mobile processing. Hangouts is almost unbearable on this device. Yes, I know the new hangouts has lag however it wasn't nearly this bad on the Nexus. The only area hangouts lagged on the Nexus was group messaging when scrolling up and down the message chain. Chrome lags during scrolling and no it didn't lag on the Nexus. Play Music lags. I installed Google Now launcher because I like the easy accessibility to Google Now and the LAUNCHER LAGS!! I've hadn't experienced a launcher lagging since I owned an HTC Thunderbolt. So many changes to the UI for just the sake of change. I open the app drawer for the first time and almost faint. WTF are 80% of these apps? I know this is subjective but the icons are absolutely disgusting. Then I'm caught in another dilemma when I attempt to use the material dark theme and the DEVICE LAGS EVEN MORE!?!?!
Man how much I wish Google still had the Google Play edition program because the marriage between stock android with the Note 5 would be heaven. Why couldn't Samsung just keep the stock UI but kept the added features such as S-pen? I really want to keep this device. I really love holding it and consuming media with it, but man navigating through this device is just a mess.
