Shield TV Remote compatible with Tablet?

Has anyone tried using the shield TV remote with a shield tablet recently?

A few months ago nvidia said they were working on a fix to make the remotes work with the tablets and that it would be incorporated into future updates ( of which there have been a few of since then), so I'm wondering if the remotes work now before I buy one.
