Do I need to update TWRP?

I'd like to know if I should update or not. A while back I had updated to a version that didn't support usb otg (on my LG G2) without realizing it. I had decided to do a clean wipe of everything and reinstall from my meenova, but surprise,no usb otg. I didn't have access to a computer and had to use the wife's phone to adb push the ROM over to my phone etc. It was nice to improvise and find a solution, but I felt like a jacka__ for not paying attention in the first place. I'm currently running 2.8.6.1 -Do I "need" to update? Are there any pros or cons? (For instance, if I remember correctly there is a change in how files are "pushed over". In the past the file itself was transferred over to the unit... Now the file stays on the host and twrp grabs it as needed. ) I may be off base so if someone would like to use this question as a teaching moment, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance for your replys.
