Restoring backup - what went wrong?

Hello,

today I managed to brick my device and restore it to working state, and I wonder at what point I made an error.

So here's what I did:

1. Had stock lollipop 30b


2. Rooted using oneclick root+recovery


3. Installed twrp using autorec


4. Xposed etc. and used it for a while without problem


5. Decided to flash something new


6. AOSPA 5.1.1 seemed like a good choice


7. Flashed bootstack, that was mentioned in aospa thread, system and gapps


8. Wow, that was smooth, but I needed my apps next day so I decided to restore my stock backup


9. Restored backup and ended up with phone in 9006 mode

Later I did some stupid moves that made whole situation worse, but that's not the point.

I backed up and restored everything that twrp allowed me to, so not only system and data, but also boot, efs, modem, recovery, sns etc. Could this be the cause? I didn't change bootstack, because I thought, that I had the needed one (autorec puts kk bootstack, right? and aosp roms also require this).

What should I do to avoid such problems in the future? I'll probably flash a lot, trying to find best possible rom for me, so it's neccesary to now whatto avoid.

And tip for future newbies like I was: if you can enter download mode, then use it, flash tool won't wipe your device data when you're using normal flash. When you've got normal working system to begin with then you can tinker further.
(Also there seems to be no way to recover from demigod critical error, even though it says it enters recovery. Then it's only this method with shorting capacitors on motherboard (fix real hardbrick)).

Restoring s6 edge wont work

I try to restore my phone and when I do it from settings factory data reset it turns off the phone and doesn't turn on until i hold the power button when I do a hard reset i turn off the phone held power volume up and home and it just keeps on the s6 screen where it says samsung galaxy s6 edge custom powered by android then after 10 seconds the home and back buttons flash like 3 or 4 times then it freezes for like 2 minutes then the screen flashes bright white with son other colors mixed in for a millisecond then turns off immediately and won't turn on but after holding the power for a moment and letting go the phone lights up 10 seconds after i let go and the phone boots up like nothing happened I tried before i rooted it and it wouldn't work my warranty is obviously voided since it's rooted and I'm mad that that's the reason I rooted is to get twrp or cwm and they don't support my variant its a galaxy s6 edge cellcom SM-G925R6 on android 5.0.2 and I want to reset since it's been having performance issues, anyone know what the heck I should do? Bottom line it won't go to recovery menu, but for some reason download mode works just fine. I feel like crap since it's not a cheap phone and I messed up my warranty trying to fix this thing. Phone still works as it did but it just needs to be reset since it gets slow.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Sprint - Problems restoring stock rom Backup (TWRP)

Phone was originally bone stock, I then rooted & installed TWRP recovery, booted into TWRP and did the Backup option and saved it to SD Card, I then flashed CM 12.1 and used it for a little over a month, trying the various Nightly updates.

I decided to go back to the stock rom I had backed up previously, It restores successfully but when I boot the phone everything is crashing once it hits the home screen, "Unfortunately xxxx has stopped" is seen over and over, I can't load anything, even the settings menu crashes.

I then tried rebooting into TWRP and did Factory reset but when I do this It wont ever get past the Samsung logo on reboot.

Not sure what went wrong with the backup or if Im missing a step? I also tried enabling the verify MD5 check option for the Backup and it says everything is fine.

For now I'm back in CM 12.1, Any ideas appreciated!

Restoring DRM keys / Warranty Claim

Hi there,

The headphone port on my Z3c has decided to start dying on me/being really loose about 2 weeks after I decided to unlock it all :/

I have returned the phone to complete threeUK stock 23.4.A.0.546 D5803 & relocked the bootloader, How do I go about restoring my drm keys from here? I made a back up of the keys when I first got the phone, I have tried launching TA-backup but it doesn't give me the option to restore them.

Restoring Nandroid Question

Pardon my ignorance on the subject, i have not dealt with nandroid to much in the past. I have been pushed the new monthly update, and I am rooted. (I Know I cannot update while rooted! and am fully prepared to flash the files) My question is this, I have made a nandroid backup using TWRP, it is obviously for a different going to be for build, after I flash the updated files. I get that I can flash that and can go back to the previous build, but is there anyway to just restore apps from a nandroid backup, and not have to go back to the previous build? Or would I have better luck using something like Titanium w/ a pro key?

[SPRINT L720T Spark] "Unfortunately X has stopped" - rom flashing & factory restoring

My phone: Samsung Galaxy S4, Sprint L720T "Spark"

So, having enjoyed a rooted phone, I tried to clear up some space by using Titanium Backup to remove the Google Books/Newsstand etc. services. Every once in a while, I had been getting "Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped." I using Titanium to restore them from a backup, but then I started getting various Google processes stopping intermittently. I used it to restore a couple more, and then it was happening all the damn time.

Screw it, I thought, I'll just restore the phone. Nothing changed. Then I thought I'd reflash it. I reflashed it with L720T_OD2_Stock_Rooted_Rom.zip (copied it on the microSD, went to the System Recovery screen, went to apply update from external storage, selected the zip file). However, doing so nets me still service after process which have stopped working "unfortunately." I can't figure out what to do. Any help?

I googled and searched threads, but it seems that most people aren't starting from a fresh flash or accidentally used the wrong ROM, but I don't think that applies to me.

Any help?

Problem restoring from back up

So my replacement Shield Tab arrived yesterday. I made sure my original Shield was backed up, but when I boot up the new one, the only restore option I get is from my Omate TrueSmart. What am I doing wrong?

Restoring to Stock

I'm relatively new to Samsung phones and am currently running this Note 4 on OBAR ROM with TWRP as the recovery and was wondering what the process is like to restore the phone to complete stock, as in stock unrooted COG5 ROM and stock recovery etc. How would I go about doing that?

[FIX] Restoring Flashmode

Some phones for unknown reason can't enter to Flashmode (Vol Down + USB = green LED)
This mode obliviously required to flash stock ROM via Flashtool / PC Companion / SEUS

When try to enter it nothing happens and phone just boots for offline charging.
Yeah, there is stock CWM-backups, but anyway broken mode is not good.

I did some research with user that had this problem and found cause.
Somehow 4th partition, s1sbl1 contain wrong data – it mismatch with OK phone.
Seems there stored loader for dealing with firmware.

After restoring good partition dump Flashmode works!
This helped 2 people, so I want to share this widely.
Do it on your own risk.

If you have recovery (CWM / TWRP)
1. Download attached ZIP
2. Copy it somewhere on phone
3. Flash it via recovery like any other ZIP
4. Done, flashmode will work

If you have only root
0. Not rooted? Use Towelroot for 4.3
1. Download attached file 1.img
2. Copy it into root of internal storage
3. Install app Terminal Emulator
4. Launch it and enter su
5. Allow root access
6. Very carefully enter this (wrong last number will brick device!):

Need help restoring features.

So today, I installed the Noble ROM to my phone but for whatever reason I lost 2 features that I use quite a bit: Fingerprint scanner and Private mode.

When I try to set Fingerprints, it tells me there is an error with the scanner and to restart.
I have tried restarting, wiping the cache, even a complete reset and it still doesn't work.

When I try to enable Private mode, it tells me that it failed to enable. I tried clearing the data via Titanium but it still doesn't work.
I'm running the Canadian variant (SM-G920W8).

Wondering if there are any specific fixes to these issues, or how I can reinstall the stock ROM. When I tried flashing the stock firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...mware-t3086387 it gave me an error (tried TWRP and Odin)

Restoring Whatsapp messages from an older Database - More then 7 days

Restoring all but Custom Rom to stock?

I have an A5chl model 816 flashed with a nightly CM12
build. Its also rooted.

What I'd like to do is unroot, restore the stock recovery,
relock the bootloader and keep CM12 for the up to date security
patches.

I tried relocking the bootloader once and was locked into
only being able to boot into the bootloader (Was thankful to
find out relocking a previously unlocked loader doesn't
initiate any wipes!).

Is there any way to do this? Security-wise it seems the
best possible setup outside of someone owning a
Nexus device which has the latest fixes stock.

I read of a hack for HTC M8 devices which allow
relocking and unlocking the bootloader and reseting
the tampered flags, etc via adb shell commands.

I still have S-On, but something like this for the 816 would
be very welcome.

With all the Android security loopholes, going back to Stock seems
somehow less secure to me, even with a locked
bootloader.

[Q] Problems restoring apps & data using Titanium Backup

I just purchased a Mi Note Pro and am running the newest weekly MIUI build (rooted). I copied over my folder with all my Titanium Backup files from my previous phone. However, when trying to restore all my apps onto the Mi Note Pro, Ti Backup just hangs and no apps get restored.

Is this a known issue? If so, is it specific to this phone, or some conflict with MIUI? I have used this method in the past to transfer all my apps to a new phone, so I know it usually works. This is the first time I have tried using a Chinese phone and MIUI OS. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Restoring Data after a factory reset..

Hey, I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm wanting to know if you can restore data for a few select apps/games without a complete "restore". My wife's phone is stock but she had taken the last three system updates since the last factory reset. I factory reset three times through stock recovery and chose "restore" data so she wouldn't lose all her game data. But now her phone is randomly rebooting and eating battery. I plan on doing a reset this weekend by using odin and putting the og5 back in and I'd like to try and keep her game data. Thanks.
