another newbie soft bricked his new phone

i just upgraded my phone from a crappy lg l70 to a htc one x+ i bought from newegg here is the link to the one i bought: nevermind cant post links as a new user

though the phone i received has the at&t symbol on the top i tried to flash the rom im using the clockwork recovery now cause i tried to go with viper rom ended up wiping os by mistake when i skimmed and read wipe the phone :P my bad and then i tried going with cynogen and downloaded its stable release and stable release recovery id like to do the viper rom viperX+_2.1.1 is the one i downloaded to try to get and ive tried the adb push ive tride to sideload and ever the viper kernal recovery flasher exe file

i dont have an os and need some help any help is appreciated and sorry in advance for not using another thread ive tried things ive found in atleast 6 other threads and nothing has quite worked for me

Hi guys. I just came here today after being frustrated with a lot of apps/themes out there aren't exactly what I want, and started looking into doing it myself. Since its my first time here, i was wondering if you guys could give me some direction? What are some things that are a "must read" first? Can I make the theme on my computer FIRST and transfer to my device, or do i have to do it all in that tiny ass interface? What tools do i need if i do want to do it on my computer first? Must have apps, and software? and more "must reads? I'm on the mycolorscreen yt channel.. are there any others i need to watch? If this was answered somewhere I apologize, I tried the search function at the top.. but the keywords I was choosing were not helpful. I really appreciate any and all info you guys can help with.

• Edit android:versionName and put the version name you want, you can put letters too but without spaces .


• In " <asset path="assetname.zip" target="app.package"> ", replace " assetname.zip " with the asset file located in YourProject/Assets, Ex : yourproject/assets/android.zip => path="android.zip " .


• Replace " app.package " with the asset package, ex android = framework-res, so the package is " android ", ex2 SystemUI package is com.android.systemui, you can know it by decompiling the Apk, and check for " Package " in AndroidManiFest.xml .


• Important, in " laf-version-filter " this is an important step to make the theme change the app content, let's take SystemUI for example, decompile it and navigate to AndroidManifest.xml, search for " laf ", you will see " laf version = 2 ", so you open your project AndroidManiFest.xml and edit " <laf-version-filter from="1" to="1" /> " to " <laf-version-filter from="2" to="2" /> ", Make it match the Laf version .

Editing Strings.xml .

Navigate to YourProject/res .
Delete everything expect " values " folder .
Open it and open Strings.xml .
Replace the content with this :

Editing Screens Preview - Lollipop Only .

• When you Open Themes Picker in your Xperia, you will the a preview you made it for the theme .


• Now, Download this FILE,then put the drawable-xxhdpi folder in " res " folder, and modify the " pre1 " image, if you want to add more Screens, just make another image and add another line in " arrays " .

Editing Images, Wallpapers / Theme Icon .

• Download this File .


• Put the content in YourProject/res .


• Edit the images, but PLEASE DO NOT COPY MY THEMES ICON STYLE .

4. Notes Making Theme Change Everything .

• There are 2 reasons for not being able to change the theme content fully .

1. You Didn't Put The Correct LAF Version .


2. The App You Need To Change Needs Skin-Permission.xml file editing, See This Guide For Info .

5. Creating Assets Files .

Making An Asset file is pretty easy, first you need the apk you want to theme, let's take how to make SystemUI Asset file as an example, and then you can make a one like it :

Download & Decompile This Asset File .
Delete The res folder content .
Decompile SystemUI.apk .
Navigate to SystemUI/res, search for things you wanna edit ( see guide below for theming guide ), then copy the files you wanna edit or you the files you have edited them to " Asset/res ", and then recompile the app, and rename it to " com.android.systemui.zip " .
After that go to AndroidManifest.xml, and put the correct Laf Version for the SystemUI, then replace " assetname.zip " with " ccom.android.systemui.zip ", and replace " app.package " with " com.android.systemui " ( the SystemUI package name ) .

Make the other assets files like it, See below for theming Guide .

6. Theming Android.Zip ( Framework-res ) .

[LIST][*]Download this asset file from here .[*]Decompile it .[*]Open res/values/colors.xml, Now you need to know what these lines mean :

7. Theming SystemUI .

First of all, the new Xperia Lollipop SystemUI is using " VectorType " images, to resize the Apk size, and not reducing drawables images, in previous version you have to add the same drawable to different screens, now you only need to put it as a VectorType image and it will Auto-Resize, So there are two ways to modify SystemUI Icons / Toggles :

1. Editing VectorType Images, Open the Drawable folder, then open the drawable you want to edit, like " ic_qs_airplane_on ", and you will see " path data ", So how to replace it ? First you need to have your icon in SVG, create it in SVG Software or Convert it to SVG ( not-tested ), after that open that SVG icon with notepad++ and copy the path data and replace it with the current.


2. Replacing Drawables With Images, If you don't like the VectorType way, you can make an image with the same drawable.xml file and put it in your screen dpi, for example : ic_qs_airplane_on.xml, replace it with ic_qs_airplane_on.png in Drawable-xxhdp, for the height & width .. take it from Kitkat SystemUI so it can match the xxhdpi screens and not being mis-sized .

Editing SystemUI Bar Color :

• Go to res/values .


• Make " drawables.xml " .


• Put this in it :

• For Translucent, you can delete, deleting it means the apps that use Transparent SystemUI bar not going to have a colored SystemUIbar, if you add it you will have your Color .

Please note there are some images can be found in drawable-xxhdpi folder you can edit, like Data Toggle icon, and other .

8. Theming Home ( Launcher ) .

In Home.Apk there are a lot of images to edit, but here's a list for the " important ones " :

• For Editing Apptray Slider/Drawer background, modify this image " apptray_drawer_background.9 " .


• For Editing the divider between the sections in Apptray Slider/Drawer, modify this " drawer_list_divider.9 " .


• For Editing the Selected Apptray Slider/Drawer Background ( When you long press a category ), modify this " drawer_list_selected.9 ", give it opacity, do not make it a solid color .


• For Editing Apptray Slider/Drawer Text Color, Modify this apptray_drawer_text_color in values/colors.xml .


• For Editing Apptray Slider/Drawer Badge Text Color , Modify this apptray_drawer_badge_text_color in values/colors.xml .


• For Editing Home Badge Text Color, Modify this home_badge_text_color in values/colors.xml .


• For editing Apptray Slider/Drawer Background, modify this apptray_drawer_background in values/colors.xml if only Editing Drawable didnt work .

9. Theming Clock .

• Clock got only Tab icons & apps icons to edit, So here is the way to modify them all :


• Download this zip .


• Extract it in Clock asset " res " folder .


• Modify them .


• Compile .

10. Theming InCallingUI .

• Nothing important in InCallingUI, only the images to modify .


• Download This zip .


• Extract is in Clock Asset " res " folder .


• Modify them, and you can modify the other icons, but these are the " main " ones .

11. Theming Phonebook .

Again nothing to modify in Phonebook, only Contact icons and other less-important icons, which can be found in drawable-xxhdpi, but for editing Dial button color, follow this :

• Create " colors.xml "


• Put the following in it :

12. Theming Messaging .

Nothing to modify in Messaging also,expect for Drawables, you can dig into colors.xml to find something to edit .

• Modify them .


• Compile .

13. Theming Calculator .

The only thing to edit is the app icon & some colors codes, like the right extra menu, accent color and text color.

• Navigate to res/values .


• Create " colors.xml " .


• Put the following in it :

I know A LOT about iOS firmware and jail breaking. I just recently moved over to android and I am absolutely clueless. It seems that I have bought a non popular phone called a "Moxee X1" and there is no information about this phone on the internet. Could someone tell me more about this phone? Hi, I am in Australia and have just purchased a Moto X via ebay. Maybe that was not a good idea :rolleyes:

When attempting to call someone on my contact list, the phone automatically places a +1 in front of the number which then apparently tells my provider I am trying to make an overseas call. I am in fact, calling locally. The phone is seemingly doing the wrong thing.

I assume that there is a setting that tells the phone in which country it is set for - in this case, it seems to be the USA - +1 is the USA prefix and the phone always wants to call the USA.

Can anyone assist please by advising as to how I can remove this setting in the phone so it will not automatically want to place the +1 in front of the local number?

Newbie: help needed in upgrading CM on resurrection remix n7100

entlemen, I am quite new to custom OS on Android but have fair share of knowledge related to IOS.

I installed CM 6 on my android and installed resurrection remix OS. Now I am not able to update to CM 12.

What I did:
1) downloaded latest nightly build from Cyanogenmod.org
2) saved in external memory
3) installed it via recovery mode.

The result was error and some status 7 message came. Thanks to the backup, my phone is good and working.

What I want to do:
1) upgrade to CM 12 or best stable ROM
2) install ios7 theme via xpose repo

Any help is really appreciated.

so I just bought a Xperia Z2 and havent updated yet or else and its been 2 years that i havent had an android phone and i havent been active in the forums alot has changed but i know the basics kernel bootloader recovery ....
there are several rooting methods for Z2 and I would like to know which is best and is less dangerous ?
Should I update before rooting ? OTA or via PC companion ? or if flashing via flashtool is recommended , which firmware ?

I've several questions for which i couldn't find an answer:

1) i'm bored by the key/button click sound, can i change it, how? Disabling is not preferred.
2) the keypad for unlocking the sim card is extremly small, can i change it,how ?
3) how can i transfer my memos from my old Galaxy Gio to SIII mini VE? I already tried backing up and restoring with titanium backup, but didn't work and android crashed, got a permanent annoying error message on display about a faulty android process.

Some newbie questions regarding customs ROMs

Hello :)

I don't have much experience with custom ROMs, I've tinkered with my Samsung Tab 2, but I still have a few questions.

First of all, I have a stock M7, and as far as I understand HTC won't update this device to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. So I decided when custom 6.0 ROMs get stable enough - I'd like to dive in and try this side of Android I haven't yet experienced. I plan on sticking with my M7 for at least a year or two, as I cannot justify buying a new flagship phone for what I consider to be a slight upgrade, I'm very happy with my M7.

#1 Dumping my current ROM
My M7 still has a 1+ year warranty, and due to the camera purple tint issue, I'd like to have a full backup of my phone (ROM, kernel, baseband etc) if I was forced to go through the warranty process. Is it possible to dump a sort of RUU-type file? The CW field on my phone has the carrier embeded into it, and I cannot find a RUU that exactly matches it, so I'm afraid it could void my warranty if they checked it.

#2 Custom ROM updates
I've found apps in the Play store that claim to provide OTA updates for certain custom ROMs, but I don't understand how this works. Are there no OTA updates for custom ROMs? My Samsung Tab 2 has CM11 installed, and I've never received a notification or anything that an update was ready. I really don't want to keep flashing ROMs and constantly backing up/restoring my data on my phone. The reason I didn't switch to custom ROMs earlier was this issue. I had an iPhone a long time ago, and updating to a new iOS version meant wiping the phone because I always used to jailbreak it because it was locked to a different carrier. That's a pain, and I don't want that. Is this an issue for specific ROMs? Do certain custom ROM developers provide this feature? If there is no "official" OTA support, is there a way to just update and not reflash a new ROM version?

#3 Custom ROM selection
This sort of ties in to my 2nd question. I want to have an almost OEM type experience with updates and so on. As far as I understand, Cyanogenmod would be the way to go, but I didn't really like it on my Samsung Tab 2 - I had battery drain issues, I didn't really like the UI, but I could live with it by using a different launcher, using apps to tweak the UI and so on. But what would be the ROM to use, in order to have an "OEM" experience?

#4 Kernels
I've wanted the double-tap to wake feature on my phone since (if I remember correctly) the M8 launched and had this feature. As far as I understand, I'd need to use a custom kernel in order to have this feature. Does that mean that I have to choose a specific ROM, or can I use any ROM with any kernel? Also ... updates? If I update my ROM - will the kernel be updated, do I have to update the kernel when updating the ROM?

Newbie Updating from 4.4.2 to 5.0.1 , but need advice first

I've been doing searches on here all night and I'm more confused than ever.
I just got a like new m8 that's still on 4.4.2.
I just rooted it with weaksauce. I would like to update to 5.0.1 and be able to root. I'm not sure if I need for s-off or unlocked bootloader, but I think I read some of these should be done before updating to lollipop.

I was planning to update with the ruu update from HTC website.
I think I read that I can't do the ruu update if I'm unlocked or s-off, but I can't unlock or s-off after updating to 5.0.1

Can someone who knows what's up with this clarify things for me? I don't want to update without being sure I have everything set right in advance.

I used the search function on this site and on google but was unable to find what I'm looking for.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with T-Mobile. I have Android aversion 4.4.2 and my model number is SM-N900T.

I rooted my phone using a guide I found on youtube to get superuser for the purpose of being able to play emulators on my phone, such as Snes9x EX+, Nostalgia.NES Lite, ePSXe, etc. They all work great. I am not using a custom ROM.

The problem I'm facing is that I don't understand if I need to unroot (correct term?) my phone and just get the auto updates, or to download and install them manually, but I'm unable to receive auto updates over the air as I'm sure you guys would know since this is your hobby and are versed in this sort of thing. I don't even know how to do either really properly but am not afraid to try.

The reason I'm wanting to upgrade now (which might be completely unrelated) is that I haven't been receiving text messages from either my sister or my roommate, whom both of their last messages were received by me on Aug. 5th. I tried contacting my carrier and they said they didn't detect a problem. Both of their carriers said the same thing (one being T-Mobile as well). I guess this is just another step in troubleshooting but I would like to believe this is a network issue.

Any advice would help and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

This tells you how to install Google's Android Composite ADB Interface driver for your Fire HD.
If you want to use sideload mode, you need to install the driver for it separately.

Install ADB Driver for "Normal" (OS) Mode

1. Make sure adb debugging is enabled on the the Fire. (Settings->My Device->Developer Options: Debugging)
To open Developer Options: In Settings -> My Device, tap on the serial number until Developer Options appears at bottom of screen.

2. If you KNOW there’s no adb driver installed for the Fire, go to next step.
. . . If driver might already be installed, do hidden steps.

Connect to computer, open Device Manager (instructions below) and see if a driver is listed under Android Device.
- If a driver is NOT listed, go to next step.
- If a driver IS listed, open CMD window in folder containing adb.exe and run adb devices command (step 12).

* If adb devices DOES return an ID, this driver is working and you don’t need to install a different one.
* If adb devices does NOT return an ID:
a. In Device Manager, right-click the driver and choose Uninstall.
b. Unplug the Fire and restart Windows.

3. Download 15 seconds ADB Installer and run it as Administrator.
If you are not Administrator, right-click the file and choose “Run as Administrator“

Press Y to install ADB and Fastboot
Press Y to install ADB system-wide or N for current user only
Press Y to install drivers

4. When prompted to install device software, install it!

5. Connect the Fire to the computer and wait until you see it in Windows Explorer.
The first time you plug in, this might take a while.

6. Open Device Manager:
Win8 - Right-click Start Button and choose Device Manager. Win7 - Click Start button and type Device Man [enter]

7. Find Fire under Other Devices, right-click it, and choose Update Driver Software.
If you don't see Fire under Other Devices, disconnect/reconnect or try a different USB port, or try toggling Enable ADB in Developer Options.

8. Press Browse my computer for driver software and then Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

9. Find Android Device, click it and press Next.

. . . If Android Device is not listed, look here.

If you DID NOT run 15 Seconds ADB Installer, STOP, disconnect from PC and run it now.
If you DID run 15 Seconds ADB Installer:
a. Double-click Show All Devices.
b. Under Manufacturer, scroll to Google, Inc, click it and continue.
↠ If Google, Inc is not listed, the ADB drivers are not installed, they installed incorrectly or were corrupted. STOP now and follow all the steps again.

10. Select Google, Inc in left pane and then Android Composite ADB interface in right, and press Next.

If the screen you see only has the Model pane (on the right above), scroll down to Android Composite ADB and choose it.
↠ If the driver is not listed, drivers have not been installed, they installed incorrectly or were corrupted. STOP now and follow all the steps again.

11. At the warning screen, press Yes.
Driver is updated!

12. Run the adb devices command and confirm it returns a device id:

a. Open CMD window: Hold down the Shift key, right-click the desktop (or an empty space in a folder) and choose Open command window here.
b. Type: adb devices [enter]

• If you see an ID followed by “device,” the driver is installed correctly. DONE!
  
  


• If you see an ID followed by “unauthorized,” look at the tablet for “Allow USB Debugging?” message and tap OK.
  If debugging message disappears before you say “OK,” unplug/replug tablet to see it again.
  Repeat the adb devices command and confirm it now looks like above. DONE!
  
  


• If you do not see an ID, the driver may not be correctly installed or USB debugging might still be disabled on your tablet. Verify all connections and reboot tablet and PC and repeat this step. If adb devices still doesn’t return an ID, follow this guide from the beginning again. :(

Hello guys,

I recently got a note 4 from my brother. I switch from a apple 4s to note 4. I really like the different customization that android allows. I download the themer app. I really like how themer allow me to set different themes. One thing I don't understand is when I first set it to another theme, whenever I click on the message icon it gives me the option to choose between the different messaging apps. however, after I click on one of them it set as default messaging app. Now whenever I click on the messaging icon it just pop up that default messaing app, it no longer gav eme the option to choose between different messenger. I have to manually go look at the other messaging app.
