4G LTE on Speed 7 Plus - what's your experience?

Hi all,

I'm in the UK and on the EE network using their 4G, and the Speed 7 downloads stuff really fast when I'm out and about. 4G when it works is really amazing... sitting on a train watching read time HD video streaming without caching is definitely miles better than 3G and to me is a strong selling point of this phone.

However, EE in the UK do charge a lot for data so I have been experimenting with other providers. I now have Three, O2, and Vodaphone PAYG SIMs. None of them have any credit on them but that should be enough to check signal... and where I am at the moment, it is not too impressive, I'm not getting 4G reception from any of them except EE - the rest are giving me 3G. I do realise that with this phone, only your chosen data SIM will get 4G, and the one in the other SIM slot will only do GSM, so I did make sure that data was turned on in the right SIM if I was using two and turned on mobile data etc.

In theory, the speed seven should be perfect for the UK, it has Band 20, Band 7 and Band 3 which should cover all of these providers. Although there are radio utilities out there that are good on signal strength, I haven't found one that tells me what Band I am actually using on 4G. (so if you know...)

So, no matter where you are in the world, I'm interested to know what you're connecting to... what 4G provider do you use, and more importantly, what bands are they on? This would be for the 'International' version of this phone which has the B20/B7/B3 radio. My phone actually reports it is enabled for 4G B1, B2, B3, B4, B7, B17 and B20 but I think that may reflect the different radio modules that can be installed, not the real hardware situation.

thanks in advance!!

Any Advance Replacement RMA experience out there?

My z551ml is having screen issues. One sees it on boot up, so it is most probably something with the framebuffer hardware.

I've initiated an RMA with Advanced Replacement (where they pre ship a replacement phone for US + credit card hold until the old phone arrives). This is only offered on the z551ml, evidently.

Anyone have any experience with this?

So far I've tried opening a ticket online. This seems to be a lose, as they give themselves 48 hours to respond. So I phoned up the support number (which suspiciously doesn't have 'mobile' or 'cell phone' listed on their web page). The guy I worked with ran me through the process, hard reset, etc and issued me with an RMA number and provided the "Advanced Replacement" form.

I'll update this post as the processing progresses.

[APP][4.2+][MATERIAL] Everywhere Launcher - The new sidebar experience

This app allows you to have as many touchable areas (triggers) on the screen as you want and each trigger allows you to open different sidebars depending on the touch gesture on it. Everything in this app is persobalisable.

Special features:
  • arbitrary number of apps, shortcuts, widgets or folders to a sidebar

  • arbitrary number of handles

  • many triggers to open a sidebar (slide up/down/left/right, click, double click, long press)

  • personalize colors, sizes, transparency, use icon packs and much more

  • Action Folder - clicking it directly opens the first app in the folder, swiping on it opens the folder

  • Action Sidebar - the trigger does not open a sidebar but directly start an app or a shortcut

  • Sidepages - page that shows your apps and allow you to fastly search them with the T9 predictive keyboard

  • Material Palette Colors - fastly select material colors

  • integrate contacts and allow them to be search like apps on the all apps sidepages

  • ...

Any feedback is appreciated and feature requests are welcome.

PS: if you use android <5.0 and version v0.20b is not yet available for you, please wait for it, as the new support library has a bug and will make problems on devices with android < 5.0
