[Q] May have bricked my Kindle 8.9, not sure

So I've got a bit of an unusual situation. I had previously rooted my kindle 8.9, put it into recovery, installed CM, etc. Well, I was trying to get back to the stock Amazon OS, so I saw someone in another thread say they downloaded the most recent firmware from the Amazon website, change it to .zip and flash that, so I tried that. I did a full wipe and all that, and the OS installed fine, but now all I can access is the carousel, and if I hit any of the menu buttons, books, games, apps, etc. I can't back out of it, the Back/ Home/ Menu buttons aren't there. Plus the menu that's supposed to be at the top of the screen is not there. I figured I would just have to reroot it, but without being able to enable usb debugging I can't figure out how to do it. I can't seem to get adb or fastboot working either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I think I goofed up pretty hard.
