Zeemote JS1 Bluetooth Game Controller

I bought this very compact little Bluetooth game controller for a few quid on eBay. It would make a great standby remote/second game controller for the Fire TV. I tried linking it via the Bluetooth settings page. The controller can be seen, but cannot be paired. I then installed the JS1 Quick Start app, which seems to works well on the Fire TV and quickly connects to the controller, but only allows you to navigate through the in app menu or play a pre-installed basic game. It pairs easily with the app and the Fire TV Bluetooth settings page even states it is paired if you navigate out of the JS1 app, but there is no control over the menus etc.

This would be a no brainer purchase for the Fire TV if only you could get full control within the android system itself. Does anyone know anything about this? Or even a workaround using another app or suchlike?
