The Teclast x98 Pro: Cherry Trail on the Cheap!

A few months ago, Teclast released the Teclast X98 Air 3G/Air II a dual booting tablet with a great screen at a very affordable price. Now that several months have past and there’s a new intel Atom Cherry Trail Processor, Teclast decided to update the tablet, and it’s a solid update with a Cherry Trail Processor that pits it up directly against the Microsoft Surface 3, which is almost double the price.

What is it & What’s new?



It’s another fancy Chinese dual booting tablet like my Teclast X98 Air II I own, meaning because of the Intel atom processor, it can run both full blown Windows and 5.0 Lolipop (which is all kinds of awesome). That being said, it’s quite an upgrade from my Teclast in a few ways though, as it ups the processor to the new Cherry Trail processor, bumps the memory to 4gb from the 2 gb on the Air II, and gives you a lot more storage than mine, coming with 64gb and having a micro SD card slot that takes up to 128gbs of memory, up from the 32gb on my Teclast, while not bumping the price that much @ 0. This means it’ll be a faster experience with less frustration.

Also, it makes for an interesting comparison with the Surface 3, which is the only other tablet using Cherry Trail.. but the Surface 3 is rather expensive, which only is exacerbated when comparing the two. The Teclast has the higher resolution screen and it’s debatable that it has a better form factor, but when comparing the specsheet, what really stands out is that it comes with 4gb on the default config, while you have to spend 9 for that on the S3. That being said, they’re totally different devices with the surface having a pen for an example, so it’s not really an apples to apples comparison and there’s more you should consider (but that doesn’t stop people from trying!
