Have been using CM11 for a long time, which was working rock solid on my Nexus 5. In August I fresh installed a CM12.1 nightly because of the stagefright bug.
Then with CM12.1 the sleep of death problem was appearing.
The normal behavior of the phone is that the screen goes black after a certain time not using it.
To use the phone again afterwards you press the power button.
But sometimes the nexus 5 then would no longer turn on. It crashed during sleep it seems.
Only after pressing the power button long, the phone booted up again.
Then tried the September release of CM12.1, but the problem stayed, also using some later nightly.
As there was a CM11 release with the stagefright bug fixed, i wiped my nexus again completely and installed the CM11 September release.
Since then the phone is working absolutely stable again with no sleep of death anymore.
Is this a known bug in CM12.1? Other people having this issue as well?
I would only switch to CM12.1 again with this bug fixed.
