No service. "RIL/baseband doesn't match"

I think I've messed up and I am a little confused about the RIL/modem/Baseband

I flashed NeatROM Superlite to my S2 because apps sand services were crashing constantly. Seems to be working well so far. SMS worked, just had no data on Optus(Aus). I had selected the correct APN.

I did some reading on modems and RILS and this is where the confusion came in. Perhaps it was my interpretation, but some threads I read suggested I flash the complete RIL, and another said just the modem. GetRIL was suggested somewhere to. I'm not sure which method does what. Also, There were many different modems mentioned said to be suitable for Optus Australia. I tried quite a few. So I need clarification on this to.

I've ended up with a No service situation, and GetRIL reports 'Baseband: Unknown' and "Baseband doesn't match.

Anything I read after the fact about these errors, suggests that I have to use EFS Pro to Backup, then Restore. I downloaded V2. It doesn't seem have a listing for my S2 variant, so I just use All Partitions. It fails every time. I tried S2 mini. It did backup but would not restore.

So, where did I go wrong and how do i get my basbeand back?

I think this is how it works... The baseband is installed with the kernel and tells the OS what bands the phone is capable of, and should not be changed. The radio, tells the OS about the network and bands are available in the country. Is this close?
