Lte enabled after cyanogen 12.1 galaxy grand 2 sm-g7102?

Is LTE enabling a software thing or a hardware because after installing cyanogenmod 12.1 on my phone I found my network showing me as "LTE(preferred)". So is it possible that my phone is now LTE enabled?
