Just booted up my Hero for the first time in years - can it connect to the Play store

My newest phone is at the bottom of the sea, so I've resurrected my Hero as a stopgap until I get something new.
I've got it all up and running with Sprint (phone, texts, data, gmail), but when I go to the Android Market, it doesn't find anything. I'd suspect that many of the apps have updates, but is my phone too old to get them?
