HTC One M8 -Google Play Store: HTC Backup, This app is incompatable with your device?

hello,

obviously im a noob, but im not stupid. so plz be easy with sarcastic replies...

im trying to tether my samsung tablet to my phone, but seems my current verizon ROM is preventing me from doing this. so im beginning the process of backing up all my phone data, apps, and info so i can root it and install custom ROM.

so....
i start my reading in google.
go to the play store to look for HTC Backup, but cant find it.
so i search in google, and follow the link,
only to see that my htc one M8 says that htc backup isnt compatible with my phone..... hmm ok.

i have been reading in google for other good apps for backing up, but i have no idea which is worth my effort..

i have a few games, lots of messages in viber, whatsapp, line, and phone contact info, lots and lots of photos, little bit of music

i assume that my dodgy verizon ROM is preventing the HTC backup app from working,
phone not rooted yet.

is there an all in one back up app? suggestions?
