Hey guys, I am an Australian living in Switzerland. Been here for several years now. I never bothered with this problem since my purchases on Google Play have always been small but I thought I should check what is happening.
Whenever I see a purchasable app on Google Play, the price is always displayed in Australian dollars (and on the bottom, they say the price includes GST, Goods and Services Tax, like VAT in Europe). I still have an Australian bank account so I always use that to pay for anything on Google Play. My Australian account charges me 2.5% every time I use my credit card in a foreign currency but for some reason, they are doing this when I pay for stuff on Google Play even though I am paying in AUD for things that are displayed in AUD.
In my bank statement, when I use my credit card in a foreign currency, they display the cost of the item in the original currency and in the AUD equivalent. But for purchases on Google Play, they always display the "Foreign Currency Amount" as 0.00 which means that know it wasn't paid for in a foreign currency.
Is this happening simply because my physical location is in a foreign country even though the "store" is technically Australia based and charges in Australian dollars?
