Android Pay on Rooted devices?

Error message from Android Pay on rooted LG G4

So I saw an article on Reddit explaining how to enable Android pay on devices right now. Figured I'd give it a shot. So, following the steps on my rooted LG G4 from Verizon, I downloaded and updated to the most recent Google Play Services from apkmirror.com, created a shortcut with Nova Launcher (widgets>activities>Google Play Services> Android Pay) and opened it up. It took me to a menu from the Google Play Services settings app which isn't visible if you open the app directly. Runs you through a few prompts enabling it as the default payment app, and sends you back to the settings page. At the bottom you can add a card, which, if you used Google Wallet before, it will load all your cards from there. Enter the CVC of your card, agree to the terms and conditions, and it sits and loads. A few seconds later, the above error message shows up. Repeated this process a few times, and same result. So, I hopped on over to my non-rooted Galaxy S6 Edge from Sprint, and repeated the process. First time through, it activated with no error messages. So, this leads me to believe that Android pay does not work on a rooted device. Can anyone confirm/deny my suspicions?
