At a loss over signal loss.

I have an annoying signal loss problem that has been on-going since 4.4, seemed to get a bit better with 5.0, but is bad again with 5.1. At random intervals the phone just loses all signal, as in no bars at all (just an empty triangle), and not even a provider showing. It does say "Emergency Calls Only" in the titlebar, not "No Service", suggesting it actually has signal. This is exactly what it does with no SIM inserted, but I have tried different SIMs to no avail. Eventually it does come back again by itself, but restarting the phone always fixes it straight away.

I can also trigger this behaviour by making a call. Sometimes it works, but sometimes as soon as the call connects, the signal does as described above (so naturally the call drops).

I have googled this for hours and found some problems that sounded similar, but no suggested fixes made a lasting fix on mine. One suggested fix was to clear cache and data for the "Phone" app, force stop, then restart. However, I noticed I have 3 apps labelled Phone. Is this normal? I did the clear/stop/restart on all of them, and that possibly helped for a while, but it started doing it again.

Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this?

Does upgrading to 5.1.1 OTA cause root access loss

I am currently on lollipop 5.0.2 and rooted and I got ota update notification. Does upgrading ota leads to root access loss. And how is this update treating you?

unlock loss

Hello to everyone. I just bought a new Captivate from Canada (rogers). I live in Greece, so the Canadian seller had to unlock the phone in order it to work with Greek networks. And it worked ok. Will I loose this unlock function if I make an upgrade to the phone with official or unofficial rom? In which cases I will lose this unlock function in order to be carefull with that? If I loose it will I be able to unlock it again by myself? Thanks in advance.

rom flashing and data loss

asking for a friend who can't make the post currently on xda but he's looking to flash a rom over to his Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (T Mobile) which is already rooted. The question is would he be able to flash the rom over and then things such as Gapps ect and then restore from a Samsung kies backup? (kies essentially is a perfect backup for Samsung phones for those who aren't custom to it)
Or what method would work to not lose stuff after a rom flash? (texts/app settings ect)

Loss of LTE on T-Mobile while on a voice call

I've had the Moto G 2015 for a few weeks now and noticed something strange. Whenever I get a call I immediately lose LTE and drop down to 3G (This phone does not tell you what kind of 3G you are on, probably HSPA+ but not sure). When the call is over it takes a while to get back on an LTE signal. The phone is 100% stock, and I'm on TMO post-paid in Southern Cali. Any thoughts?

Leather back and cell signal reception loss

Has anyone noticed that the leather back seems to attenuate cell phone signal strength?

I was able to use signal test pro and found with the leather back on I would hover around -110 db and with the back plate off, I'd hover around -100 to -95 db. This is with no case in the exact same location. Alternating between the leather back and no back plate routinely altered signal strength by 10db on a Sprint LG G4 on LTE band 25 and band 41

Anyone else notice this or can replicate this? Does the plastic back also display this characteristic?
