Stable rom for Ainol Novo 7 Venus?

I need help to revive this old tablet with a stable rom. I found this post from a 1 year-old thread, and I need to know whether this would still work or not.

Also, does the device have to be rooted before flashing this rom or the TWRP will do the job? (new to this TWRP thing)

Android version: 4.2.2
Kernel version: 3.4.0+
