Lock Screen - Notification Exoansion

Is there a way to expand/pull-down the notifications on the lock screen?
i.e. if I receive several text messages/WhatsApp messages - instead of it saying "9 messages from 3 conversations",
is there a way to expand it *while in lockscreen* and see the messages themselves?
I know this is possible on other devices, not sure which android version.
