Connecting USB lead messes-up camera storage settings.

Really annoying problem with the HD2 that's been around for a long time, but thought I'd ask if anyone knew of a fix:

Situation: If a USB lead is plugged in whilst either the Camera or Albums app is running, then a phantom second storage card folder appears, and the camera changes its settings to storing photos and videos in the phone memory instead of on card. Once like that, the change is permanent and even restarting the phone will not correct it.

In fact, to correct the problem involves a fair bit of manual hacking :
Restart the phone
Make certain which of the two storage card folders is the proper one (a mistake here will trash your data)
Delete the phantom one.
Restart the phone
Rename the proper one to 'Storage Card'
Restart the phone (Might not always be needed)
Go into the camera app and put the storage settings back. right.

All in all, a LOT of work and a high risk of data loss, and can happen oh-so easily because it's not always apparent that the camera hasn't closed properly and is still running in the background. Worse, if you don't notice this glitch has happened, then the next time you use the camera it will quickly fill the phone's rather small memory and then bug out.

Dos anyone know of a fix, or alternatively a way to script/automate the repair process?
